Q: What is the Smilebox Teacher’s Toolbox program?

A: At Smilebox, we know that good communication between teachers and parents is essential. We’re pleased to help make a teacher’s job a little easier (and more fun!) by offering a creative, safe and free way to share classroom activities and information with your students and parents through photos, videos, words and music in multimedia designs. The Smilebox Teacher’s Toolbox program offers qualified teachers a free year of the premium Club Smilebox service (a US$47.88 value) as well as multimedia designs and activities to assist teachers with creative and safe ideas for digital classroom communications.

Q: What are the qualifications necessary to participate in the program?

A: All full-time teachers are eligible to register for a complimentary premium Club Smilebox account using their school email address or home email address. The offer is limited to one complimentary account per qualified teacher.

Q: What is the benefit of participating in the program? Why not just use the free version of Smilebox?

A: Members of our Teacher’s Toolbox program receive a complimentary annual subscription to the premium Club Smilebox version of our service. This means:

  • Your creation will be viewed without ads
  • Your creations can be played back full screen
  • Both you and your recipients can print your creations or save the creation to a JPEG file for printing at home or retail
  • You can choose from 100s of music selections or add your own personal music to accompany your creation
  • You have unlimited access to more than 900 designs in the Smilebox catalog
  • You can burn your Smilebox creations to DVD or save them as a video file.
  • You can save your Smilebox creations for playback on a photo frame
  • Members of our Teacher’s Toolbox program also receive regular newsletters and updates with ideas specific to the needs of teachers.

Q: How/where can I apply for the Teacher’s Toolbox program?

A: Qualified teachers can apply for the Teacher’s Toolbox program at http://www.smilebox.com/go/teacherstoolbox.

Q: Can I register using my home email address?

A: Ideally you should register with your primary school email address (normally a .org or .edu address) as this will be the email address visible to your recipients.  However, if you anticipate difficulties due to your school’s firewall or spam filters you may use your home address.  Whichever email you use, please remember to add teachers-toolbox@smilebox.com to your address book and/or spam filter. 

Q: What if I’m not allowed to download software and/or receive outside email at school?

A: Ideally you should register with your primary school email address (normally a .org or .edu address) as this will be the email address visible to your recipients.  However, if you anticipate difficulties due to your school’s firewall or spam filters you may use your home address.  Whichever email you use, please remember to add teachers-toolbox@smilebox.com to your address book and/or spam filter.

Q:  Can I log onto Smilebox with my teacher email on another computer?

A: You can access Smilebox and send creations from any computer using your primary teacher email address. However, your Smilebox creations are stored locally to the hard drive on the computer which they were created. They can be transferred manually between any computers.

Q: How will I know if my application has been approved?

A: After submitting an application for Teacher’s Toolbox you will receive an email notifying you of your approval status with download and installation instructions.  Please allow 48 hours for processing and make sure to add teachers-toolbox@smilebox.com to you address book to ensure receipt of our emails and ongoing communication from Smilebox.

Q: Will you sell or share my or my recipients’ email addresses?

A: Your email will not be shared with any third party. Your recipients’ (parent and student) email addresses will not be accessed by Smilebox or any third party.

Q: Are you limiting the number of teachers in the program?

A: The program is currently accepting new applicants, however, we reserve the right to cap the number of participants at any time.

Q: I am using a Mac. Can I participate in the program?

A: Yes. We’re pleased to offer the Smilebox to both Mac and PC users and both are welcome in the Teacher’s Toolbox program.

Q: How long does the program last?

A: Under the terms of the Teacher’s Toolbox program, participants receive one free year of our premium Club Smilebox service (a US$47.88 value).

Q: Am I required to enter my credit card number?

A. No. You do not and should not enter a credit card to apply for the Teacher’s Toolbox program. After one year, the subscription will simply stop and you can decide to renew as a paid or free customer.

Q: Am I required to send a certain number of Smileboxes to remain a member of Teacher’s Toolbox?

A: No, however we will invite those participants who most use Smilebox regularly to extend their participation in the Teacher’s Toolbox program.

Q: What types of teachers are eligible for the Teacher’s Toolbox program?

A: Currently all full-time teachers are eligible.

Q: I am having problems registering or installing Smilebox. Who do I contact?
